I prefer straw; it’s absorbent and keeps the coop smelling fresh. Plus, it’s fun to watch the hens scratch around in it!

I’m not a fan of straw because of mold potential. I use pine shavings instead. They stay dryer and smell better.

Great point, Sarah! It’s always a balance between comfort and health. Do you all find that egg production decreases during winter months?
